Claude - Working with Damage: Kelly Breedlove on Memory, Masculinity, and Gods and Monsters

Claude Anthropic AI - May 2026

In preparing Gods and Monsters for exhibition, Breedlove turned to Claude, Anthropic's AI, as a critical conversation partner — uploading each painting individually and engaging in extended conversations about the work's meaning, biography, and formal qualities. Those conversations became the foundation for the interview that follows, conducted by Claude from the perspective of an art critic and curator.

The paintings were completed before any engagement with AI. The answers are entirely Breedlove's own.
